P.S. We hope you consider purchasing our car buying guide. However, whether you buy or not, I'd like to leave you with a few helpful tips you will need to know before going into the dealership to buy or lease a car.
A little homework goes a long ways:
The most important thing to know before you buy a car is that knowledge is power. It’s a mistake to arrive at a car lot without first researching the car you want to buy. You can find out just about anything these days online. A little homework can save you a bunch of money.
Obtain Your Own Financing To Compare:
Many people obtain financing from the car dealership, but this is a mistake. Dealership interest rates are typically much higher than loan rates. Usually because they tack on a percent or two for their profit. Your bank or credit union is one of the best places to start researching car loan rates.
The Art Of Negotiations:
Buying a car is stressful and much like going to war. Next to buying a house, purchasing a new car is one of the most expensive purchase you will make in life.
Do everything you can do to negotiate the car loan and knock the purchase price down. Start with a ridiculous number below invoice and work your way up. DO NOT negotiate from the MSRP price down. This does not work in your favor.
Walk into the dealership with confidence, stick to your guns, and don’t forget you can walk away any any time.
Leasing Is Not For Everyone:
I can't state this enough. Leasing IS NOT FOR EVERYONE. There are pros and cons to leasing. If you don't know what they are then I suggest you DO NOT LEASE.
Buying Based On Monthly Payments:
Salesmen are notorious for asking you how much can you afford to pay each month. There is a reason for this. Do not engage in this conversation. If you have done your homework, you already know what you can afford. Negotiate price of car, not monthly payments.
I hope that helps!
In the end, buying a car is a major purchase, and it’s important to research each and every aspect of the process. Educate yourself so you can go into negotiations well-prepared to get the best deal possible. By following the tips outlined in our guide, you’ll get the best price possible on your next car.
